Man arrested in death of Stamps woman

STAMPS, Ark. - A Garland City, Arkansas, man has been arrested in connection with a Lafayette County homicide case.

Jonathan Tanner has been arrested in connection with the homicide and is being held in the Lafayette County jail, according to information from the sheriff's office.

Deborah Barton, 55, was found dead Sunday night inside a Stamps, Ark., resident.

The Lafayette County Sheriff's Office received a call about 11:27 p.m. Sunday to do a welfare check at 310 Calvin St., in Stamps Arkansas. Stamps Chief of Police Jeff Black responded and made entry into the house. Upon entry, he found Barton, 55, of Stamps, deceased.

Police determined Barton's death to be a homicide and called the Arkansas State Police to take the lead on the case.

Barton's body has been sent to the Arkansas Crime Lab in Little Rock for an autopsy. There has not been a motive established yet, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

The case is ongoing and remains under investigation.

Black expressed his appreciation to the Arkansas State Police, Lafayette County Sheriff's Office and Lewisville Police Department for all of their help in this case.
