GIRLS PLAYOFFS | Teams weathering the storm during the playoffs

TEXARKANA, Texas - Three area basketball programs on the Texas-side have had to alter their playoff games due to inclement weather.

Liberty-Eylau, DeKalb and McLeod are all in the area round of the state playoffs and all will have their game dates moved.

Liberty-Eylau (21-7) will face No. 3 Brownsboro in the area round on Saturday in Hallsville at Bobcat Gym. Tip-off is slated for 2:30 p.m.

"Anytime you have a break in the routine, kinda throws things off a bit," Liberty-Eylau head coach Lamarcus Franklin said. "We're going to go forward with our Zoom meetings and we're also encouraging the girls to do somethings around the house until we're able to get back in the gym. Whenever the weather permits."

DeKalb (16-5) is penned to face Sabine in the area round, but a site and time has yet to be determined.

"Anytime you get to the second round of the playoffs, everyone you face is pretty good," DeKalb coach Melissa Motes said. "It doesn't look like we're going to get a chance to play anytime until Friday or Saturday, so we just want to stay ready. Sometimes a break is good.

"This is a time the kids can just be kids. It's probably good they get a chance to rest a little bit because we've been going pretty hard the past few weeks. I trust these kids to be focused and mentally ready when the time is right."

McLeod (17-4) is schedule to play Alvord, but a site and time has yet to be named.

"We have a few gyms reserved Tuesday through Saturday, so we're just waiting to see what happens with the weather," McLeod head coach Casey Schubert said. "Alvord was affected by the weather a little more than we were, so hopefully the road conditions will get better.

"We had to quarantine earlier this season, so for us, this is a time for us to learn how to handle adversity."
