Bowie County to present mental health program

DAINGERFIELD, Texas - Bowie County's Agricultural Extension Service and Leadership Advisory Board will present a six-hour Youth Mental Health First Aid program from 9 a.m., to 4 p.m., Jan. 21, at the Morris County Courthouse.

The program will focus on teaching parents, family members, teachers and caregivers how to help adolescents who are having mental health issues as well as substance abuse and addiction challenges and other crisis.

The training session's aim is to inform adults about common mental health concerns among youth and reducing the stigmas that accompany those concerns.

Besides information, the session will also focus teaching adults how to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health and substance abuse problems regarding youth.

Finally, the program will seek to provide adults with skills to use a five-step action plan, to help a young person, who might be facing either a mental health problems or a crisis - such as suicide.

The program is free but only limited seating will be available.

The Morris County Courthouse is located at 500 Broadnax Road in Dangerfield.
