Nash company seeks tax break as part of $200 million expansion plan

Plan expected to create 80 jobs; county considering five-year, 50% abatement

NEW BOSTON, Texas -- Bowie County Commissioners are considering cutting a Nash manufacturing company's taxes in half for five years as an incentive for a $200 million expansion that is expected to create at least 80 jobs.

Ta Chen International is the company that is seeking the property tax relief. It bought Texarkana Aluminum Plant in 2018.

On Monday, Commissioners set a public hearing for Dec. 6 to consider the guidelines and criteria for the abatement agreement.

Precinct 4 Commissioner Mike Carter said the expansion should be good not only for creating jobs, but also for helping the area's economy in general.

In other business, Commissioners agreed to cast all 930 of its votes in favor of allowing Precinct 4 Commissioner Tom Whitten to serve another tw0-year term on the Bowie Central Appraisal District's Board of Directors.

Court members further agreed to allow DeKalb City officials to demolish a non-usable county building located in the 300 block of Grizzly Street, at no cost to the county.
