TEXARKANA, Texas -- A man accused of beating another with a sock filled with dominoes last week is being held in the Bowie County jail on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Bobby Lee Findley Jr., 33, and others allegedly were gathered March 27 at a house in the 2200 block of Akin Street. Findley allegedly became angry at a 42-year-old man who criticized Findley's treatment of a woman.

"(The alleged victim) stated to Findley that he didn't think he should have taken the female's phone and treated her that way," a probable cause affidavit states.

The alleged victim reported that he attempted to leave the Akin Street house after Findley threatened to hit him but was struck in the head with a domino-filled sock and choked by Findley before he could get away. Police were called to a house in the 700 block of Lumpkin, where the injured man was taken by car from Akin Street.

Officers observed the man slumped over on the couch "in what appeared to be pain and discomfort."

The man had a long scratch on his forehead and red eyes consistent with strangulation. The man reported being struck in the left temple with a sock containing a padlock, though other witnesses reported seeing Findley allegedly fill the sock with dominoes.

"He also advised he was choked by 'Bobby' with both hands," the affidavit states.

A Texarkana, Texas, officer intended to follow the LifeNet ambulance carrying the alleged victim to the hospital. As it was about to pull away, the officer heard yelling in the ambulance. Officer Austin Butts was advised that Findley was nearby, walking south on Virginia Street.

Findley allegedly became confrontational and claimed he was the victim.

"I then determined Findley had a phone and was able to contact the police if assistance was needed, but he never called," the affidavit states.

While being booked into the Bowie County jail, Findley allegedly shouted, "I whooped their ass."

Findley is being held without bail because of a motion to revoke probation filed in a misdemeanor family violence assault case for which he began serving a two-year term of probation in January. Findley pleaded guilty to the offense Jan. 4.

If convicted of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, Findley faces two to 20 years in prison. If his misdemeanor probation is revoked, he could receive up to a year in the county jail.

Bowie County court records reflect several prior misdemeanor family violence assault convictions for Findley.
