One man killed, another injured at Hope park

HOPE, Arkansas --One man was killed and another injured in a shooting at Northside Park in Hope.

The Hope Police Department responded at 4 a.m. Sunday to reports of a shooting victim, according to a news release.

While enroute to the park, officers were also advised that one person with a gunshot wound was being transported by personal vehicle to Wadley Hospital in Hope.

Upon arrival at Northside Park officers found one person lying in the parking lot near the entrance to the park with an apparent gunshot wound. That person was identified as Bernard McCarthur Jr, 24, of Hope. McCarthur was transported to Wadley Regional Medical Hospital where he later died.

The victim who was transported to the hospital by car has be identified as Stevaughn Johnson, 26 of Hope. He was taken to Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, Texas.

No arrests had been made as of Monday.
