TEXARKANA, Texas – The city Parks and Recreation Department will join with the Texarkana USA Chamber of Commerce on Thursday to host a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new inclusive playground in Spring Lake Park.

The playground was proposed, planned and built as an Eagle Scout project by local Boy Scout Troop 16 in partnership with Parks and Rec and funded by donors and sponsors.

The Scouts and the department wanted to provide a place to play for disabled and special needs children.

According to an online project description, the inclusive playground will be a "universally designed, sensory-rich environment that enables children to develop physically, socially, and emotionally. A place that goes beyond minimum accessibility to create play experiences that meet a variety of needs and interests."

The ribbon cutting is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Thursday at the park, 4303 N. Park Road.
