TEXARKANA, Texas -- A man accused of stabbing his father to death and injuring his mother on Father's Day weekend has been formally charged in Bowie County.

Shaun Patrick Paxton, 42, who was indicted earlier in August, pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and aggravated assault during a hearing Monday morning in 5th District Court, according to records. His next court date is Nov. 28.

Paxton is accused of stabbing his parents about 1:30 a.m. June 19 at their home in the 3600 block of Skyline Drive. Michael Paxton, 65, died at the scene; his wife was seriously injured.

Shaun Paxton was arrested at the residence. He remains in Bi-State Detention Center on a $1 million bail for the murder charge and $500,000 bail for the aggravated assault charge, according to jail records.

Paxton also pleaded not guilty Monday to a charge of theft of property over $2,500 and under $30,000, according to court records. That charge is from a November 2021 incident.
