Bowie County to hold hearings on tax rate, budget

NEW BOSTON, Texas -- Bowie County Commissioners Court has planned two special meetings this week to hear from the public on a new budget and a planned property tax rate increase.

The proposed $42 million budget for the new fiscal year is the topic at 9 a.m. meeting today in the court's meeting room at Bowie County Courthouse. Commissioners will spend 30 minutes taking public questions and comments on the budget, including proposed salary increases for elected officials.

After discussion, commissioners are expected to approve the $42,110,508 budget.

A proposed property tax rate increase is the subject of the second special meeting and public hearing at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the courthouse. The plan is to increase the rate from 4.24322 cents per $100 valuation on real property to 4.24875 cents.
