LINDEN, Texas -- A former Hughes Springs, Texas, High School coach has been charged in Cass County with 10 felonies related to the alleged sexual abuse of a minor female.

Aaron Michael Marshall, 38, is being held in the Cass County jail with bails totaling $3.5 million.

Marshall surrendered himself to authorities after being contacted by the Cass County District Attorney's Office, which assisted the Linden Police Department in the investigation. Cass County DA's Office Investigator Cody Sartor said the charges involve a girl who was allegedly abused by Marshall from 2016 to 2020, when she was the ages of 12 to 16.

Sartor said there is no information to suggest Marshall engaged in misconduct with students.

"Our office is aware that Marshall was employed at the Hughes Springs High School as a coach at the time of his arrest. Marshall has served as a coach in numerous school districts in and around our area including Hooks ISD, Winona ISD, Dallas ISD, Jefferson ISD, Bloomburg ISD and Karnack ISD," a press release from the Cass County DA's Office states.

Marshall has been charged with one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, three counts of sexual assault of a child and six counts of indecency with a child by contact.

"Given the nature of these charged offenses and his close proximity to children our office is requesting anyone who has any information about this offense, or any other potential offenses, to contact Colette Roberts, our Crime Victim Coordinator," the release stated.

If convicted of continuous sexual abuse of a child, Marshall faces 25 to 99 years or life in prison. If found guilty of sexual assault of a child, Marshall faces five to 99 years or life on each of three counts. If convicted of indecency by contact, Marshall faces two to 20 years on each of six counts.

Marshall appeared before Justice of the Peace Barbara McMillon for a magistrate's hearing Thursday. McMillon set Marshall's bail at $500,000 on each count of continuous sexual abuse of a child and sexual assault of a child and at $250,000 on each count of indecency with a child by contact.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Colette Roberts, Crime Victim Coordinator for the Cass County District Attorney's Office, at 903-756-7541.
