WAKE VILLAGE, Texas — One man is in critical condition after being shot in the chest with an air rifle Thursday afternoon near a housing complex.

About 12:45 p.m., police were dispatched to the 800 block of MacArthur, where they found a 28-year-old white male bleeding suffering from what appeared to be a penetrating wound to the chest, said Sgt. Todd Aultman of the Police Department.

Officers provided first aid until LifeNet arrived and took the man to a local hospital.

"The initial investigation has determined the injured party was shot with a high-powered adult air rifle, and appears to have been self-defense," Aultman said later Thursday in a news release.

The shooting reportedly stemmed from a domestic issue that started somewhere else and migrated to MacArthur, Aultman said earlier Thursday.

The suspected shooter was interviewed and released without charges.

"The investigation is ongoing, and there are details of this incident that have not been released," Aultman said.
