TEXARKANA, Ark. — Special Health Resources is hosting a citywide health fair for teens next week.

The fair will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at Crossties Event Venue and is open to students in grades 9-12. Presenters will speak on various topics, including HIV/AIDS and preventative medication.

“This event will equip students for success in high school and beyond with tools in hand and information from each vendor,” said Ashley Smalley, marketing liaison/community outreach at Special Health Resources.

The resource fair is sponsored by Texarkana Radio Center. Vendors include Express Personnel, H&R Block, Texarkana College’s TRIO Educational Opportunity Center, First Choice Pregnancy Center and Riverview Behavioral Health.

Live music will be provided by DJ Hollygrove, food by vendors such as Big Slice and Kona Ice, and demonstrations by Tonsorial Arts Barbers.

Donations of school supplies for the event are still being collected. Needed items include pens, pencils, highlighters, sticky notes, pocket folders and notebooks.

“The first 300 students attending receive a backpack filled with supplies,” according to the event's flyer.

Special Health Resources provides medical, dental, pediatric and behavioral health information for the community.

“It’s important to educate,” said Smalley. “The reason why I have chosen teenagers is because if you grab a hold of them now, you have a better chance of changing their future.”

Crossties is at 324 E. Broad St. For more information, contact Smalley at [email protected].
