Editor's Note: This story is the latest in an occasional series on young leaders and entrepreneurs trying to make a difference in Texarkana.

TEXARKANA -- Holly Craigen, a real estate agent with Better Homes and Gardens, can now add Habitat for Humanity board member to her list of accomplishments.

The Atlanta High School graduate says dedication has helped her to chart success as a volunteer and professional.

"The biggest factor in my success was not giving up when it was tough and working every second I have," Craigen said. "I believe this is something you're either born to do, or not. When it's in your bones, it never feels like work."

The mindset allows her to balance work and personal life, but that doesn't mean she is unwilling to prioritize work. She shaid she is known to network anytime she has an opportunity, keep in touch with clients or answer emails and phone calls when she would rather enjoy the beach.

"I choose work over play," she said. "Even on vacation I am working. I don't mind it, because I love what I do."

Finding joy in her career and service to the community of Texarkana motivates Craigen.

"My favorite thing is having the opportunity to do some good in this world," she said. "I enjoy working side by side to help others with people from my community I may not have met otherwise."

This idea led Craigen to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity. She was installed as a board member this year.

"I first got involved with the Nail a Stud fundraiser and then joined the fundraising committee after that," she said. "They had a need for volunteers and fresh ideas, and we've seen great success in the last year with fundraising."

Habitat for Humanity's most recent event, Diamonds for Doorways, gave volunteers a chance to be creative.

"It was a lot of fun for everyone, and we were able to raise a healthy amount to put to good use," she said.

Along with hard work, dedication and commitment, Craigen said success also involves managing time effectively, asking questions and being kind to others.

"Also, remember that someone else's success is not your failure," Craigen said. "Cheer for those around you and spread all the love you can. It's the easiest thing you can do. "
