FULTON, Texas -- Hempstead County Sheriff's Office is investigating how two vehicles wound up in the Red River.

A fisherman using a sonar device discovered one vehicle Tuesday morning and called the Sheriff's Office. The call triggered multiple agencies to respond.

"We responded," Sheriff James Singleton said. "Hempstead County dive team and Miller County dive team, Hope Police Department ... responded as well."

Singleton said once onsite, deputies used a sonar device to find another vehicle while the first vehicle was being extracted from the water.

"The first vehicle seemed to be a late-model GM product," Singleton said.

Singleton said the towing service also retrieved the other vehicle, which was submerged on its roof.

The vehicles are being processed by Hempstead County to determine their owners.
