Texarkana man pleads not guilty to assault, evading arrest charges

TEXARKANA, Texas -- A Texarkana man accused of taking part in a shooting last year entered pleas of not guilty Tuesday to aggravated assault and evading arrest.

R'Keavius Tremal Morrison, 21, appeared before 102nd District Judge Jeff Addison for arraignment Tuesday morning on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and evading arrest in a vehicle. Assistant Public Defender Deborah Moore entered not guilty pleas to both charges on Morrison's behalf.

The offenses were allegedly committed on different dates last year in November and December, according to probable cause affidavits filed in both cases.

Morrison is accused of being involved in a shooting Nov. 17, 2021, that sent a 25-year-old man to the hospital with bullet wounds to his right cheek and left arm. Morrison and two other men allegedly knocked on the door of the shooting victim's unit at the Creekside apartments the night of the shooting while he was in bed.

The man's girlfriend told investigators that when she opened the door at about 10:30 p.m., three men asked for the shooting victim by name. The girlfriend reported the men pushed past her through the doorway and went to the bedroom.

"(The girlfriend) said she heard approximately three to four gunshots, so she hid in the bathroom," the affidavit states.

The man who was shot was taken to Parkland Hospital in Dallas after being treated initially at a local hospital.

As the investigation proceeded, detectives identified a suspect with the Facebook profile name "Trapped Out KV" as one of the three men who rushed into the shooting victim's apartment. Morrison allegedly uses the name "Trapped Out KV" or "KV." The affidavit does not identify the other two suspects in the shooting.

Morrison was taken into custody Dec. 21 on a warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest at the time and that case is pending before Bowie County Court at Law Judge Craig Henry.

Days before his arrest, Morrison was allegedly the back seat passenger in a tan GMC Yukon pulled over near the intersection of Martin Luther King Blvd. and Brown streets. The driver was arrested for narcotics possession during the stop Dec. 17, 2021.

While officers were involved with the driver, Morrison allegedly jumped into the driver's seat and fled. Officers chased the Yukon but lost sight of it in Texarkana, Arkansas, where it was abandoned with a flat tire on E. 11th Street.

Suspecting Morrison was the back seat passenger who jumped into the Yukon's driver's seat, investigators listened to Morrison's recorded jail phone calls after his arrest Dec. 21.

Morrison allegedly told a person he was speaking with that he left their Christmas present in "someone's truck" and when questioned further, allegedly stated, "You know what happened. I had to VRRRRRM," the affidavit states.

Also addressed at Monday's hearing is a pending motion to revoke a 10-year term of felony probation Morrison was assessed as a juvenile in 2017 for aggravated robbery. The case was transferred to adult court in January 2021.

In that case Morrison pointed a gun at a woman sitting in her car in a store parking lot in Texarkana, Texas, and demanded her cellphone.

Morrison's lawyer told the court that the pending motion to revoke probation stems from Morrison's new charges. Addison scheduled Morrison to return to court in April for a pretrial hearing.

Morrison's bails on the pending misdemeanor and felony charges totals $535,000. He is being held without bail on the pending motion to revoke probation in the robbery case.
