SHERMAN, Texas -- A man accused of seriously injuring a toddler with ties to Texarkana was picked up in Grayson County, Texas, over the weekend on felony warrants issued in Dallas and Hopkins counties, jail records show.

Charles Edwin Brooks Jr., 30, allegedly became a fugitive last summer after cutting off the ankle monitor he was required to wear as a condition of his bond on a charge of injury to a child in Dallas County, according to earlier reports. Jail records in Grayson County show Brooks was booked March 12 on the Dallas County warrant and a warrant in Hopkins County, Texas, for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Brooks is the stepfather of the boy he is accused of harming. The child was hospitalized in Dallas last year with a serious head injury. The boy's mother is from Texarkana. Brooks reportedly has ties to the Atlanta, Texas, areas.

If convicted of injury to a child with serious bodily injury, Brooks faces five to 99 years or life in prison.
