TEXARKANA, Texas -- A registered sex offender is facing a new accusation in Bowie County involving an 8-year-old Texarkana, Texas, boy.

Rickey Lee Johnson, 52, is required to register as a sex offender for life because of a 2005 conviction for indecency with a child by contact involving a 15-year-old boy, according to the Texas sex offender registry and a probable cause affidavit.

Johnson was arrested Tuesday by Texarkana Texas Police Department on charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child and indecency with a child by sexual contact. Johnson is being held in the Bowie County jail, with bail set at $300,000.

An 8-year-old boy allegedly made an outcry of sexual abuse by Johnson sometime after the boy's father died in mid-December.

The alleged sexual misconduct reportedly occurred in the living room of a house in Texarkana while other adults were outside, according to a probable cause affidavit. Johnson allegedly told the boy not to tell anyone.

Johnson faces five to 99 years or life in prison if convicted of aggravated sexual assault of a child. If convicted of indecency with a child by sexual contact, Johnson faces two to 20 years in prison.

Bowie County District Attorney Jerry Rochelle said his office evaluates all child sex abuse cases to determine if enhanced sentencing ranges can be sought based on prior convictions.
