PGISD to consider hiring construction manager for high school addition

TEXARKANA, Texas -- The Pleasant Grove Independent School District Board of Trustees will consider hiring a construction manager for a Career and Technical Education addition to its high school campus during a meeting Thursday evening.

Harrison Walker & Harper was selected by a district committee to recommend to the board. The recommendation will be to hire the firm as the construction manager for the high school CTE addition and 2022 bond projects.

The CTE addition is part of the district's past bond plan and will be an extension of the high school's campus between the high school building and indoor facility. It is funded through the $19.9 million bond voters approved in 2018 for the school and for updated security and technology districtwide.

The addition will include 11 total classrooms -- eight standard size and three larger ones -- that will house the school's health science, graphic design, TV production, engineering and business programs. There will be an add-on outside workspace with the robotics room, and one of the rooms will be a studio for television audio production.

CTE Director Jennifer Gibson told the Gazette in March the plan was to break ground in late May or early June.

The 2022 bond was approved by voters on Saturday, with the purpose of improving facilities across the district.

The board will also consider the approval of a roof and HVAC replacement at Pleasant Grove Middle School, to be paid for with bond funds. The district hopes to complete the project by the end of this summer.

The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Margaret Fischer Davis Elementary School Cafeteria, 2800 Galleria Oaks.
