Eagles drop pair, eliminated from nationals

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. -- Texas A&M University-Texarkana took a pair of losses -- both 6-0 -- during the second day of the NAIA National Tournament Oklahoma City section at Ann Lacy Stadium Tuesday.

The Eagles, who wrap up their season at 43-14, lost to host Oklahoma City, 6-0, and then fell to Eastern Oregon, 6-0.

Unlike their early game, the Eagles managed to put together some offense in their second game of the day, but never pushed a run across to aid pitcher Anna Westberry, who lasted four innings and gave up two runs on seven hits.

Mackenzie Vittitow pitched 1 1-3 inning, and Dorrie Cormier worked the final 1 2-3.

TAMU-T banged out eight hits, with Katelyn Slamer singling twice. Erika Richardson and Sarah Velasquez each had a double, and Laura Dyer, Baylee Stautzenberger, Alyssa Gillen and Makenzie Moore added a hit each.

The Mountaineers broke through with four runs in the fifth inning and tacked on two more in the sixth against the Eagles.

In Tuesday's opener, Oklahoma City pitcher Shelbey Cornelson hurled a 1-hitter with six strikeouts and no walks to even TAMU-T's record at 1-1 in the 4-team tournament.

Amy Crabaugh belted a 2-run home run for the Stars in the sixth inning after Mallory McCoy's RBI double gave the home team a 3-0 lead. Tiffany Paul scored later in the inning on an error.

Crabaugh scored the game's initial run in the third after advancing to third on a wild pitch and coming home on an error. Kennedy Jackson singled in the second run of the inning for a 2-0 OKC lead.

Westberry absorbed the loss, working 4 1-3 innings and allowing two runs on five hits. She had two strikeouts and a walk. Vittitow pitched 2 2-3 innings of relief and surrendered four runs -- three earned -- on five hits with a strikeout and one walk.

Gillen had the Eagles' lone hit.
