Lady Hawks face Melissa in regional semis

WINNSBORO, Texas -- Pleasant Grove (18-12-4) takes on Melissa (26-4) in a Class 4A regional semifinal game at Winnsboro High School at 5:30 p.m. today.

The Lady Hawks are coming off a 7-6 dramatic win over Mabank in Game 3 of their regional quarterfinal series. The Lady Cardinals defeated Kennedale, 7-1, in a 1-game regional quarterfinal playoff.

"They have a good team and are well coached," Lady Hawks head coach Becca Collom said. "If we play solid defense and square up the ball then I think that we have more than a chance to come out on top. We just need to come out and compete for seven innings and take our opportunities. We have won in all kind of ways throughout this postseason and we have quite a few experiences to draw from."

Likely starters for Pleasant Grove are pitcher Lexi Snyder, catcher Sarah Hackleman, Presley Humphrey at first, MJ Williams at second, Abby Runion at third, Adi Koller at shortstop, Ann Elise Lindsay in left field, Kaylee Gann in center field and Hailey Allen in right field.

Katelin O'Neal, Lauren Stewart, Taylor Breiby, Gracie Whitecotton and Timia Cooks round out the Hawks roster.

"We feel good," Collom said. "We've had good practices this week and everyone is working hard and fine tuning. The girls have been grinding and making plays. Hopefully we can carry that confidence into the game."

The winner plays Aubrey or Bullard in the Class 4A Region II final on Saturday. The winner of the regional final will compete in the state tournament.
