A strong overnight storm has left thousands of area residents without electricity.
As of 8:30 a.m., 8,600 SWEPCO customers were without electricity, the company reported on its Facebook page.
The electricity provider blames the outage on high winds and lightning that brought down power lines and utility poles.
“We expect power to be restored to a majority of customers by midnight,” according to the Facebook post.
