About a fifth of registered Miller County voters participate in primaries

TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Only 21 percent of registered voters showed up to the polls for Miller County's party primary elections on Tuesday.

Throughout Arkansas, which has 1,762,024 registered voters, about 26% cast ballots, according to the Secretary of State website.

"We have over 25,000 registered voters," Debra Jackson said. Jackson works in the Miller County Clerk's office as the marriage deputy clerk.

"A little over 5,000 showed up to the whole thing," Jackson said. "The presidential election is always a really big thing, but this is rather low."

The exact number of voters who cast ballots 5,462..

"If you're not registered to vote and you want to vote in the November election, you will need to come in," said Jackson. "Your registration has to be done 30 days prior to the election."

Runoff elections for sheriff and Justice of the Peace, District 7, are slated for June 21.
