Texas High grad Lyles smashes home run in Game 2

SAU wins 3 games, sweeps Arkansas Tech

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. -- Chris Lyles, a Texas High graduate, crushed a solo home run for Southern Arkansas University in the second inning of Game 3 against Arkansas Tech and the Muleriders completed a 3-game sweep with a 5-3 victory on Saturday.

SAU's Chris Sutton, also a Texas High graduate, walked in one plate appearance in Game 3 and scored a run.

Jack Liddell earned the win, pitched 3 2/3 innings in relief, allowed a run on five hits and struck out two for the Muleriders.

Lyles and Sutton each doubled in Game 1 and SAU edged the Wonder Boys, 3-2. Sutton went 2 for 4 at the dish with an RBI.

Jeremy Adorno got the victory in Game 1 after putting in nine innings of work, giving up two runs on eight hits, striking out nine, walking three and hitting a pair of batters.

Lyles drove in a run and went 2 for 3 at the plate in Game 2 as the Muleriders claimed a 5-3 win. Lyles also stole a base.

Sutton scored a run on Brandon Nicoll's double to left center in the seventh frame. SAU's Jack Rector threw 3 2/3 innings in relief, got the win, allowed two runs on a hit, walked two, struck out five and hit a batter.

The Muleriders' offense tallied 21 hits in the series with 12 walks and six hit-by-pitch. SAU pitchers gave up 21 hits combined (just two went for extra bases), struck out 19 and gave up 2.6 runs per game. Arkansas Tech came into the series averaging 8.6 runs per outing.

The Muleriders (27-10, 19-5) host the University of Texas at Tyler at Walker Stadium at Goodheart Field today at 4 p.m.

SAU is first in the Great American Conference standings with a winning percentage of 79.2. Ouachita Baptist is second with a record of 17-7 and Arkansas Tech is third at 16-8.
