Prep Football: Texas High dominates 8-5A All-District team

Tiger standout Tradarian Ball chosen as league’s MVP

TEXARKANA, Texas -- Texas High left a monumental fingerprint on the 8-5A All-District team with seven superlatives and 13 players earning first team honors.

Tiger sophomore running back Tradarian Ball led the way as he was chosen Most Valuable Player. Junior teammates Javari Johnson, running back, and David Potter, quarterback, were named Co-Offensive Player of the Year.

Junior linebacker Isaiah Dowden was honored with Defensive Player of the Year, and senior Evan Holman was Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Senior lineman Tyquan Black was Co-Defensive Lineman of the Year along with senior Quinton Clark from Pine Tree. Sophomore Texas High player Duncan McGhee earned Defensive Newcomer of the Year, and Tigers' head coach Gerry Stanford was named Coach of the Year.

Texas High went 11-2 on the year with a mark of 5-1 in district. The Tigers took home their fourth consecutive district title and went three rounds into the state playoffs, falling to Lucas Lovejoy, 43-21, in the regional semifinals.

Rounding out the superlatives were Co-Special Teams Player of the Year Victor Martinez (Nacogdoches) and Modesto Serrato (Marshall) along with Jordan Taylor (Pine Tree) as Offensive Newcomer of the Year.

Texas High had eight players chosen to the first team on offense and five players named on the first team defense.

Donquavieus Ford, Joshua Blackwell and Damien Chisum made the first team for offensive linemen. Bryce Holes was first team center, Joe Miller first team fullback, Knox Pilgreen first team tight end, Franklin Delk first team kicker and TJ Gray first team receiver.

Placed on primary team defense for the Tigers were tackle Kenneth Merriman, defensive end Jamarion Hope, inside linebacker Trystan Powell, outside linebacker Alex Jones and safety Kendrevion Boyce.
