NEW BOSTON, Texas -- A Mississippi man arrested in a 2020 fatal shooting at a local restaurant will go on trial in May trial date, according to Bowie County court records.

Cedric Deshun Alexander, 31, of Wall, Mississippi, was arrested in June 2022. He is charged with capital murder in the death of Jermaine Aldridge on Dec. 31, 2020, at Chili's restaurant. He is also charged with engaging in organized criminal activity, according to court records.

A jury trial has been scheduled for May 16 in Bowie County's 5th District Court. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for May 15. Alexander is represented by attorney Tabitha Branch, according to court records.

Alexander is being held in Bi-State Detention Center. Bail is set at $1 million.

A previous request for a bond reduction was denied, according to court records.

After receiving a 911 call on New Year's Eve 2020, police officers found Aldridge lying between two cars in the Chili's parking lot about 4:30 that afternoon. He had been shot once in the back and died at the scene.

"Although there was very little information initially, our detectives never gave up on solving this case. They continued to go through evidence, track down leads and interview people who might know something about what happened that day," Texarkana Texas Police Department spokesman Shawn Vaughn said at the time of the arrest. "Those efforts eventually paid off and ultimately led to Alexander's arrest for the murder."
