Prep Basketball: Fouke's Bishop, Smith announce commitments to South Arkansas CC

FOUKE, Ark. -- Two players from Fouke's girls varsity basketball squad announced their commitment Wednesday to play at the next level.

Jacie Bishop and Logan Smith, both seniors, have committed with South Arkansas Community College to further their academic and basketball careers.

The Stars are part of the National Junior College Athletic Association and are located in El Dorado, Arkansas. They play in Division II, Region 2 with Arkansas State Mid-South, National Park, North Arkansas, Shorter College, Southern Arkansas University Tech and University of Arkansas Cossatot.

Last season, South Arkansas finished in the top 10 in the nation for academics. The Stars were seventh for the national honor, which is bestowed to the team with the highest mean grade-point average among all NJCAA teams across each sport, regardless of division of play. Their 3.65 grade-point average placed the women second among all NJCAA Division II women's basketball teams.

Fouke girls rout Genoa Central for 20th win of season

GENOA, Ark. -- Fouke girls' varsity basketball exploded in the third quarter for 34 points to help seal its win over Genoa Central, 68-30, on Tuesday night at Dragon Gym.

With the win, Fouke kept its unbeaten conference record intact.

The Lady Panthers (20-3, 5-0) had nine players score, including a game-high 12 points from Kendall Haworth, and hit 11 three-pointers in the win. Mallorie Scoggins and Connie Ross each added 11 points and Nailah Zetrenne contributed 10 points.

Genoa Central was led by Lydia Whitehead's seven points and Gracie Fowler's six points.

Fouke's JV squad won, 31-2, behind Kinley Smith's 15 points. Hannah Aaron finished with eight points for the Lady Panthers, who extend their record to 11-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

The Lady Panthers will hit the road Friday night and take on Jessieville.
