The Texarkana Homeless Coalition held its 10th annual Bridge City Chili Cook-Off fundraiser over three hours Friday evening, Jan. 27, 2023, along one block of Hazel Street between East Third and Fourth streets. The event featured entries from 14 local business, civic and nonprofit organizations. Money raised from entry fees and raffle ticket sales will go to purchasing food and clothing for the homeless, as well as funding college scholarships and job training for them, organizer Vashil Fernandez said. Fernandez said the first fundraiser drew about 200 patrons, with the more recent fundraisers now attracting 300 to 500 customers. (Staff photo by Greg Bischof)
