Redwater High School art students receive accolades at Visual Arts Scholastic Event competition

REDWATER, Texas -- Thirteen Redwater High School Students attended a regional arts competition and received accolades for their work, and two will advance to the state level.

Eleven students received superior ratings from judges, which is the highest score possible in the Visual Arts Scholastic Event competition. Redwater competes in Region 8.

Two out of the group, Josh Newsome and Karle Williams, were selected to have their pieces advance to state competition.

Newsome's piece was a prismacolor self-portrait titled "me" and Williams' piece was a photograph of a Redwater Elementary student titled "Color Run."

Students who received two superior ratings include Hannah Boddye, Maci Martin, Shania Maugham, Jaylee McClure, Lillianna McMurrian, Cambria McWilliams, Makenzee Minter and Shailyn Quillin.

Students who received one superior rating include Stephen Bolster, Gracie McCoy and Tiffiny Reed.

Newsome and Williams will participate in the state competition in San Marcos, Texas, in late April.
