Texarkana ISD investigating report of student bringing gun to Texas Middle School

TEXARKANA, Texas -- Texarkana ISD officials are investigating a Texas Middle School student allegedly bringing a firearm to campus Wednesday.

According to the school principal's statement to parents, TMS administration was made aware after the school day that a student said they had brought a firearm onto campus grounds.

"There were no threats made to any students or staff. After TISD was made aware of the report a thorough investigation was initiated immediately," Principal Shawn Davis said.

Davis said that the district takes situations involving firearms seriously and is pursuing all legal and disciplinary actions possible, up to and including expulsion and prosecution, pursuant to the district's student code of conduct.

"Our staff remains diligent with our safety protocols and we ask that you remind your students to say something if they see something," Davis said.

TISD Chief Communications Officer Todd Marshall said Thursday the investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
