TEXARKANA, Texas -- April is Autism Awareness Month, and Texarkana Harley-Davidson is set to host a fundraiser to benefit Greater Texarkana Autism Awareness.

The event is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, the day before World Autism Awareness Day.

GTAA is all about supplying teachers and therapists with what they need to help ensure their students are successful.

"We try to enrich the lives of the people of our community who have autism, for children, and so we reach out ... and we try to buy specific things." GTAA President Rebecca Bayless said.

For the second time, Texarkana Harley-Davidson will host a car and truck show as part of the fundraiser. Last year it was such a success the motorcycle shop decided to do it once again. Anyone is welcome to join with any car or truck, and there will also be a poker run.

Food will be sponsored by Shell Shocked Catering.

"Lynn and Al Green, who normally do Toys for Tots, decided to step in, and they are the ones who are taking care of the car show again this year. A lot of charities like to step in and help each out," Bayless said.

Bayless hopes the funds raised will continue to help create a better learning environment for kids with autism. The group's service area is "from Hope to New Boston, Ashdown, Queen City and Atlanta."

"We are all about the kids," she said.
