DeKALB, Texas -- DeKalb ISD's superintendent Dr. Chris Galloway announced his resignation Tuesday morning in a joint statement with the district's board of trustees.

The board and Galloway have reached an agreement that allows for the superintendent to pursue other interests and for a new superintendent search to begin.

The board expressed appreciation for Galloway and noted his achievements during his tenure, including navigating a pandemic and growth of the student population.

Galloway oversaw the transition of DeKalb students from the traditional school schedule to a four-day school week. He saw DeKalb Elementary receive a National Blue Ribbon and the district receive an improved overall academic rating of 87 (B).

Galloway expressed gratitude to the board for the opportunity and appreciation towards the community for their support during his tenure.

Galloway declined to comment, referring to the joint statement. The board will begin the search for superintendent candidates shortly.
