Bowie County authorizes sale of 60 tax-delinquent properties

NEW BOSTON, Texas -- Sixty parcelsof private property in Bowie County are going back on the market.

Bowie County Commissioners agreed Monday to have Bowie Central Appraisal District reacquire the properties and put them up for sale, since the previous owners have failed to pay property taxes.

A full listing of the properties will be posted later this week at the Appraisal District, 122 Plaza W. in Texarkana, Texas.

Commissioners further agreed to reappoint John Paul Sellers and Ben Franks to each serve another one-year term, on the Emergency District 5 Fire Department board. They also agreed to reappoint Larry Meadows and Ron Rogers to each serve another two-year term on the same board.

Court members further agreed to approve an inter-local agreement with Texarkana Texas Independent School District that would allow the county to supply the district with election consulting services and voting equipment for the May 6 school board election.

The Commissioners Court also agreed to accept a $300 donation to the Sheriff's Office from a private resident. Sheriff Jeff Neal said the resident is an active supporter of the office.

The court also authorized County Judge Bobby Howell to approve an advanced funding agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation to replace a bridge at Sherwood Forest Road and Aiken Creek.

Bowie County resident Mike Sandefur told commissioners that he was pleased to see recent business development in the New Boston area.

"I would like to see the county consider putting a business and economic growth agenda on its charts for consideration," Sandefur said
