TEXARKANA, Texas -- CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System recognized 33 volunteers Tuesday for accumulating nearly 73,000 hours in community service at the hospital.

Erma Short was honored for volunteering 5,000 hours of service, according to a news release.

"I don't expect to always experience life-changing encounters with every person I meet, but I know through my volunteer role, I am able to make (a) little difference in their lives, often in challenging times," Short said.

Gift shop manager, Jan Lewis, was honored for 4,000 hours, while Wanda Adcock was awarded for 3,000 hours. Other honorees were Karen Meredith, 2,500 hours; Rita Adams, Nedra Frady and Paula Warren, 2,000 hours; Diane Moss and Pam Williams, 1,500 hours; and Linda Schafer, 1,000 hours.

The hospital also recognized volunteers who contributed 100, 200, 300, 500 and 750 hours of service, the news release states.

The volunteers work in a range of areas, from the gift shop to the information desk.

"Our volunteers serve such a vital role in fulfilling our mission for our community. We are pleased to recognize the impact of their service through this annual celebration," said Jeanne Connell, volunteers director.
