Plane wing strikes, kills woman mowing lawn at Broken Bow Municipal Airport

BROKEN BOW, Okla. -- A woman riding a lawn mower died when an airplane's wing struck her Friday at a McCurtain County airport.

Samantha Hayes, 27, of Idabel, Oklahoma, was on a riding lawn mower at the Broken Bow Municipal Airport just before 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 29, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. A 70-year-old pilot had touched down on the runway when he saw Hayes. The pilot tried to pull the plane up but was unsuccessful, according to the report. The wing struck Hayes and she was pronounced deceased on the scene, according to the report.

The incident remains under investigation.

The airport is located on Rodeo Road, west of Broken Bow.
