Prep Softball: Pleasant Grove secures second in 15-4A standings with win over Pittsburg

TEXARKANA, Texas--Pleasant Grove handed Pittsburg an 8-4 loss Saturday at Lady Hawk Field, locking up second place in District 15-4A.

The Hawks, who have won five of their last six, got rolling early when they took an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. Pittsburg answered back with a run in the top of the second, but the Lady Hawks added another run in the bottom of the frame.

After a scoreless third, Pleasant Grove increased its lead to 5-1 with a two-run fourth inning, which was enough the rest of the way. Its last three runs came in the sixth inning.

Pittsburg added one run in the sixth and two in the seventh, but the rally wasn't enough.

Pleasant Grove infielder Abby Runion -- a .449 hitter on the season -- hit a triple and led her team with three hits and three RBIs. Jacklynn Smith and Hailey Allen had two hits apiece.

In the circle, Sarah Hackleman led the Lady Hawks in her ninth win of the year. She had five strikeouts, one walk, and allowed eight hits.

Pleasant Grove will be back in action on Tuesday at Paris in the regular season finale. After that, the Lady Hawks will face either Brownsboro or Athens in the bi-district round of postseason play.
