Prep Track: Arkansas High boys, girls secure Top 10 finishes at 43rd annual Lake Hamilton Invitational

PEARCY, Ark. -- In a highly competitive field that included more than 25 schools, Arkansas High's boys and girls held their own, finishing in the Top 10 this week during the 43rd annual Lake Hamilton Invitational.

The Razorbacks finished seventh overall as the Lady Backs took the fifth spot.

The showing comes a week after the Razorbacks and Lady Backs finished in first- and second-place, respectively, last week at the Scrapper Relays in Nashville, Arkansas.

Fayetteville's boys and girls took the top spots at the invitational at Lake Hamilton, with the boys scoring 146 points and the girls with 159. Vilonia and Little Rock Parkview boys followed while El Dorado and Lake Hamilton girls placed second and third.

Arkansas High's Cameron Sanders won the triple jump with 43-00.00, ahead of Beebe's Maverick Walker and Fayetteville's Isaiah Taylor.

Standout athlete Jaquavion Ross gave the Razorbacks a third-place finish in the high jump finals at 21-01.00. Fayetteville's Cooper Williams (21-06.25) placed first, and Pine Bluff's Courtney Crutchfield (21-02.00) was second.

Jakyrion Sims, Zeryan Randle, Javen Davis, and Jayden Flowers gave winner Fayetteville (42.33) all it could handle in the 4x100-meter relay with a 43.33 finish for second place. Little Rock Parkview trailed the Hogs at 43.77.

In the girls' events, McKenzie Smith (34-10.50) placed second in the shot put and second in the discus throw (124-01).

Aniyah Black qualified for state in the 100-meter dash after placing fourth with a time of 12.53.

The Lady Backs' team of Chelsea, Johnson, Meisha Johnson, Ellanah Black, and Aniyah Black finished third in the 4x100-meter relay at 50.66 seconds. El Dorado (49.70) won the event, and White Hall (50.40) came in second.
