TEXARKANA, Ark. -- Two local law enforcement officers were injured in a vehicle collision Monday morning as they responded to a call.

The accident was reported about 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of East and Division streets, said Lt. Jamie Gravier of the Arkansas State Police, which is investigating the crash. Three vehicles were involved: Miller County Sheriff's Office and Texarkana Arkansas Police Department patrol units and a private vehicle.

"The two officers were transported to [an] area hospital, and the driver of the third vehicle was taken by private vehicle as well," he said at the scene.

The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

TAPD Capt. Jeff Gladden said his officer and the Sheriff's Office deputy were answering a call to assist another deputy.

The names of the injured officers and other driver have not been released.

The investigation is ongoing and could include asking nearby businesses if they have any surveillance video that could have recorded the accident. After the investigation concludes, the case will be submitted to the Miller County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for review, Gravier said.

The accident highlights the risks that come from answering emergency calls, according to Gravier.

"Put the emergency lights and siren on, and at times have to drive faster than the posted speed limit, but still gotta drive with due regard and make sure that we get there safely," he said.
