TEXARKANA, Texas -- As of Friday afternoon, a portion of the city in the vicinity of Texas High School's Tiger Stadium is under a boil water notice.

Due to reduced distribution system pressure and loss of water while repairing a broken water main valve at West Sixth and Brown streets, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required some Texarkana Water Utilities customers to boil their water prior to consumption.

The locations affected are from Whitaker Street to Nettie Street and North Lake Drive from West Seventh Street to Bertha Street.

Children, senior adults and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, according to a news release from TWU.

Water for drinking, cooking and ice making should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes, according to TWU.

Questions can be directed to Rick Barton or Chris Cagle at 903-798-3850. If someone cannot reach the above number, they can call 903-277-0859 or 501-288-5195 at any time.

TWU will notify customers when the order is lifted.
