TEXARKANA, Texas -- Adult Zumba classes have returned to the Southwest Center.

Classes are from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Zumba is a Latin-inspired dance workout. The high-energy classes are set to upbeat music and feature choreographed dance numbers.

Working up a sweat in the 60-minute classes burns an average of 369 calories -- more than cardio kickboxing or step aerobics, according to WebMD.

Many of the dance steps used in the routines emphasize the hips and midsection to help strengthen the core.

The jumps and lunges that are part of the choreographed movements help work the quads and hamstrings.

The Southwest Center is at 3222 W. Seventh St. Call 903-798-3978, extension 1, for information.
