TEXARKANA -- The number of Bowie County, Texas, voters who cast early or absentee ballots is on par with the rest of the state, Elections Administrator Pat McCoy said.

As of 9:30 a.m. Friday, 4,947 Bowie County voters had voted early, and the elections office had received 426 absentee ballots. Those 5,373 voters are about 8% to 8.5% of the county's registered voters, a rate close to the Texas average, McCoy said.

Early and absentee voting have gone smoothly in Bowie County, aside from some minor "hiccups," he said. "Nothing major. Nothing that that affected the integrity of the election or anything like that."

In Miller County, 988 early ballots were cast by Friday morning, elections coordinator Linda Crawford said.

The county has mailed 23 absentee ballots but has yet to count how many have been received.

"The elections board will not start working on absentee ballots until Election Day," Deputy County Clerk Loretta Russell said.

Miller County has about 29,000 voters on record.

Crawford said no poll or voting problems have been reported.

"It's such a small election," she said of the primary vote. "That could be different in the fall."

Bowie and Miller counties will use countywide voting on Election Day, March 5. Voters can cast a ballot at any polling location.

Bowie County will have 25 Vote Centers open between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Thirteen Vote Centers will be open in Miller County. Polls will be open between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
