EDITORIAL | Super Tuesday: More than just presidential nominees on the ballot

It's Super Tuesday, the biggest voting day of the presidential primary season.

Along with Arkansas and Texas, voters in Alabama, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Vermont and Virginia will head to the polls. Voters in Alaska, Utah and American Samoa caucus today as well.

Today ,a total of 865 Republican delegates are at stake with 1,215 delegates needed for the GOP nomination.

The Democratic Party nomination requires 1,968 delates to win and 1,420 of those will be allocated by today's vote.

Of course, the nominees are already almost certain to be President Joe Biden on the Democratic side and former President Donald Trump for the GOP.

So why bother to vote?

Today's primaries are not just about the presidency, though. Party nominees for every seat in the U.S. House of Representatives and one-third of U.S. Senate seats are on the ballots. And there are plenty of state, county and local nominations to be decided as well.
