Hyzdu, Reid keep bats hot as A&M-Texarkana completes series sweep of Texas College

TEXARKANA, Texas -- Texas A&M University-Texarkana finished off a three-game series sweep of Texas College on Monday, hammering the Steers for 11 hits in a 12-2 win at Dobson Field.

The Eagles (10-12 overall, 7-5 RRAC) outscored Texas College by a 34-5 margin over the three games.

Hunter Reid had three hits and drove in three runs, Luke Hyzdu had two hits and three RBIs, and TJ Krause also collected a pair of hits for the Eagles, who led 8-0 after three innings and 11-1 after five before the game was called after seven frames.

Blake Taylor (2-1) picked up his second win of the year with a five-inning outing that included five strikeouts and just one earned run. Matthew Slowick shut the door on Texas College with 1.1 scoreless and hitless innings of relief, striking out two.

The Eagles had four hits for multiple bases, including a home run by Hyzdu – his first of the season – and doubles by Hyzdu, Dakota Leopold and Elvis Park. The team struck out just once in 44 plate appearances and drew 10 walks.

TAMU-T takes a short break from conference play Wednesday, traveling to Arkadelphia, Ark. to take on Ouachita Baptist in a single game, scheduled for a 3 p.m. start.

Eagles score early, often in sweep of Texas College

A&M-Texarkana put the bats to work Sunday during a conference doubleheader against Texas College, plating a total of 22 runs in a pair of wins (11-3, 11-0) at Dobson Field.

Luke Hyzdu and Hunter Reid each banged out three hits and TJ Krause added a pair, including his first home run of the season in an 11-3 win. Reid doubled twice and drove in four runs, bringing his team-best average to .388, while Hyzdu also doubled twice and drove in a pair of runs.

Oscar Sanchez went the distance to pick up his second win of the season (2-3), allowing just six hits and two earned runs while striking out nine on 100 pitches. The Eagles went up quickly, getting two runs in the first before doubling the lead in the third. They increased the lead to 7-3 in the sixth before adding a four-spot in the seventh.,

In the second game, three pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter in Sunday's second game, an 11-0 win. Gage Mason started and went 3.1 innings, striking out eight, but Anthony Galindo (1-2) picked up the win with six strikeouts in 2.2 innings of relief. Marcus Tidwell struck out the side in the final inning.

The Eagles had just five hits, including two from Jarren Lewis. Adam Garren hit his fourth homer of the season and drove in four runs, TJ Hughes brought home a pair of runs, and Emilano Campos drove in two.

The Eagles scored four runs in the fourth inning and added fouor more in the seventh.
