TEXARKANA, Texas - The holiday season and classic movies go so well together that the local Cinemark theater has a pair of films lined up to resonate with this theme.

Cinemark joins forces with TCM Big Screen Classics to showcase the family-friendly flicks "Fiddler on the Roof" this Sunday and Monday, then "Babe: a 25th Anniversary Event" on Sunday, Dec. 20.

"Fiddler on the Roof" is a 1971 Norman Jewison-directed classic about the Jewish experience in a Ukrainian village where the Czarist government exerts control over the lives of residents, including the family at the center of this tale.

The movie, which features an award-winning score by John Williams, was adapted from the musical of the same name and the stories "Tevye and His Daughters," which were written by Sholem Aleichem. Williams won Oscars for his music that enlivens a story about a milkman and his unmarried daughters.

While it's also a perfect example of family fare for the holiday season with a charming wholesomeness to it, "Babe" takes a decidedly different approach to filmmaking, complete with chit-chatting critters and a lovable pig named Babe who discovers a talent for herding sheep.

When he falls under the care of farmer Arthur Hoggett (played by James Cromwell), Babe (voiced by by Christine Cavanaugh) must manage a whole new social scenario with life on the farm and its residents, such as a border collie named Fly.

As long as it's not on the holiday plate, who wouldn't fall in love with a talking pig now?

For both films, Turner Classic Movies provides added features to share extra insight with the audience.

"Fiddler on the Roof" shows at noon and 5 p.m. Sunday, 7 p.m. Monday. The run time is three hours and 10 minutes. "Babe: a 25th Anniversary Event" shows at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Dec. 20. The Run time is one hour and 40 minutes.
