The Collins Senior Center remains closed until further notice due to COVID-19 but grab and go meals are still available for senior citizens.

Senior Citizen Services is offering Grab and Go meal service for those 60 and over (participants must register with agency - call 903-831-7696).

The Collins Senior Center staff has not received the OK to reopen, due to the rising cases of COVID.

"I just tell our seniors until further notice," said Gertrude Abby, who operates the Collins Center.

Abby said she misses the senior center's regulars but can visit when they pick up their grab and go meals at the Southwest Center.

Senior citizens can drive up to the back door at the Southwest Center between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and pick up the meals from Senior Citizens Services. Seniors will receive two meals on Monday and Wednesday, and one meal on Friday.

The Southwest Center is at 3222 West Seventh St., in Texarkana, Texas.

The Southwest Center had opened for some activities inlcuding yoga and zumba but recently closed again due to an employee testing positive for COVID, according to the City of Texarkana, Texas.
