IN OUR VIEW | Keep Right: New law clears things up, but will it do any good?

You probably know the feeling.

You are driving down a multi-lane highway, often an interstate, and there is a driver who won't budge from the left-hand lane, making it difficult to pass.

Those who insist on "riding the fast lane" as it's often called can be frustrating to those who follow the rules and stay in right lane except to pass other vehicles. It's not unheard of for such inconsiderate driving to inspire road rage.

Most states have laws against staying in the left lane. But sometimes they are vague. Arkansas law, for example, only says left-lane driving can't impeded traffic flow.

Until today, that is.

Most motorists will be happy to know a new law goes into effect today in the Natural State. It specifically says left-lane driving is only allowed to pass another vehicle, to exit from the left or when other lanes are closed, in disrepair or unsafe.

That should make the rules pretty clear to all who travel on Arkansas highways. The question is, will it do any good?

Knowing the law and obeying the law are two different things. After all, speeding is illegal, but far from unpopular.
