IN OUR VIEW | Flag Day: Take time to honor our nation's symbol

If you are like most in the Twin Cities, you've probably seen American flags lining the streets over the weekend and wondered "what's going on this time?"

Well, the answer is Flag Day, a somewhat neglected, even forgotten observance that rolls around every June 14.

Flag Day marks the adoption of our national banner by resolution of the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.

Thankfully it's neither neglected nor forgotten by Texarkana's Rotary Clubs and their community partners, who make sure Old Glory is displayed every June 14 as they do with other appropriate national holidays and observances.

And if that makes some folks wonder, so much the better. Maybe they'll ask. And maybe they'll learn.
