Liberty-Eylau boys earn first soccer victory

TEXARKANA, Texas - Ezekiel Brown booted in two goals in the first half to lead Liberty-Eylau to a 4-1 win over Tenaha at Harris Field on Friday.

Greg Aguilar put the Leopards (1-4) up 3-1 on a free kick in the second half. Terrick Alexander scored Liberty-Eylau's fourth goal late in the match.

 

Pleasant Grove 6, Greenville 1

GREENVILLE, Texas - Aubrey Oller legged in a pair of goals as Pleasant Grove dismantled Greenville in a varsity girls soccer match.

Emma Sanderson scored the Lady Hawks' first goal on a free kick from the 40-yard line. Delia Tuttlebee booted in a goal off a corner kick from Emma Bohemke. Georgia Cobb and Sapana Pokhrel scored a goal each.

Supriya Sharma was solid at goalie and had a shutout until she was taken out of the match late in the second half.

 

Basketball

Pleasant Grove 81, Paris 37

PARIS, Texas - Asia Lloyd and Shanequa Henry each set the nets on fire with 19 points to lead Pleasant Grove to a District 15-4A win.

Brianna Block fired in 12 points for the Lady Hawks, while teammate Keshawn Davis added 10.

Pleasant Grove (21-4, 4-0) plays at North Lamar on Tuesday.

 

Hooks 65, Redwater 46

REDWATER, Texas - Hooks' Alley Jefferson poured in a game-high 30 points, including 26 in the second half, to lift the Lady Hornets to the District 14-3A win over the Lady Dragons.

Lindra Burchette added 11 points for Hooks, which outscored Redwater 39-24 in the second half.

The Dragons got 14 points each from Reagan Markham and Haley Latham and Ashton Holland added nine.

Hooks will host DeKalb on Tuesday and Redwater plays at Atlanta next Friday.

 

Hughes Springs 57, Ore City 22

ORE CITY, Texas - Hughes Springs had three players score in double digits to propel the Lady Mustangs to a 57-22 win over Ore City in District 15-3A action.

Rylie Tenbrook led Hughes Springs with 13 points, Sanariya Davis added 11 and Briana Young 10.

The Mustangs put this game away early, jumping to a 20-4 lead at the first break and 46-8 at halftime.

Hughes Springs travels to Daingerfield on Tuesday.

 

Detroit 47, McLeod 41

MCLEOD, Texas - Detroit rallied in the second half to down McLeod, 47-41, in District 15-2A action.

The Lady Longhorns went on an 18-6 second-quarter tear to grab a 24-14 halftime lead. But the Lady Eagles fought back and outscored McLeod 23-17 in the final two quarters.

Gracie Lance paced the Horns (6-2 district), who are second behind leading Clarksville, with 11 points and Cary May and Kaitlyn Cross added nine each. A Shelby scored 18 points for Detroit.

 

Tennis

Hawks claim 12 medals

HALLSVILLE, Texas - Pleasant Grove's varsity boys and girls earned a total of 12 medals in their spring opener.

"This was a great start to the spring season for the Hawks," Pleasant Grove head coach Erik Pickett said.

Grant Mitchell earned first place in boys A singles, and Lilly Pace was first in girls B singles for the Hawks.

Ramsey Noble and Elaina Shellogg took home gold in girls B doubles, while Ryan Franklin and Autumn Crouch placed first in mixed B doubles. Anna Guan and Rose Anderson were third in girls A doubles.
