Baseball tournaments on tap starting today

TEXARKANA, Texas - A pair of annual high school tournaments begin today at Texas High and in New Boston.

The annual Battle of the Border baseball tournament will run through Saturday at Tiger Field with three games on tap each day. There are five teams in this year's event.

The annual New Boston/McDonald's Classic will be held at the New Boston City Park with games scheduled through Saturday. There are six teams in the tournament.

At Texas High, three city teams will be in action today. Liberty-Eylau plays Longview at 1 p.m., Arkansas High squares off against the Lobos at 3:30, and the Leopards and host Tigers meet at 6. Atlanta joins the tournament on Friday, playing Longview at 1 p.m. L-E and the Lobos play at 3:30, and THS and AHS play the 6 p.m. game.

On Saturday, the Leopards play Arkansas High (10 a.m.) and Atlanta (12:30 p.m.), and the Tigers and Rabbits play at 3 in the final game of the event.

At New Boston, the home team and West Rusk start today's action at 8:30 a.m. Queen City faces West Rusk at 11, and Paul Pewitt and James Bowie meet at 1:30 p.m. The Brahmas stay in the field for a 4 o'clock tilt against Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill, and New Boston clashes with Chapel Hill at 6:30.

Friday's schedule begins with Chapel Hill and West Rusk at 9 a.m. Queen City plays New Boston (11:30) and James Bowie (2 p.m.), and the Lions and Pirates meet at 4:30 in the final game of the day. On Saturday, James Bowie and West Rusk meet at 9 a.m., Paul Pewitt at WR at 11:30, and Chapel Hill and Queen City at 2 p.m.
