Top-ranked Prescott stays true to form

HOPE, Ark. - Prescott, the state's top-ranked Class 3A football team, dominated Hope from the opening kickoff, as the Curley Wolves thrashed the winless Bobcats Friday night on Hope's home turf.

The Wolves (3-0) scored less than minute into the contest and led 23-0 at the first break. A 26-point second quarter put the game out of reach in the first half.

Prescott quarterback Carston Poole scored on 1-yard sneak with 52 seconds into the game. Jacaylon Zachery ran for the 2-point conversion to give the visitors a 7-0 lead they would never relinquish.

Poole, who passed for 178 yards on 8-of-14 attempts, connected with Zachery for a 74-yard TD midway in the second period.

The Wolves' running attack was also unstoppable, with halfback Jaylen Hopson rushing for a game-high 131 yards on only seven carries. He scored on runs of 42 and 77 yards.

Zachery also had two touchdowns on the night, dashing 39 yards for a score midway in the opening quarter.

Eric Grigsby also scored on a 1-yard plunge and Pierce Yates recovered a fumble in the end zone as Prescott's lead soared to 49-0 with 2:06 left in the first half.

Hope (0-3) managed to score as time ran out in the half. Kelston Mask hauled in a 29-yard scoring toss from Tyler Patterson for the TD. Juan Ortiz kicked the PAT.

With the mercy rule enacted and the clock continuing to run in the second half, the Bobcats closed out the scoring on 20-yard run by Tamorien Lindsey with 1:14 left to play. The kick failed.

The Wolves managed 433 yards of total offense, including 255 on the ground. Hope had 180 yards, including 125 through the air. The Bobcats also lost two fumbles and Prescott one.
