Area Preps | Northeast Texas Football; New Boston snaps Redwater's win streak

REDWATER, Texas - Redwater's ride on the unbeaten train has ended.

New Boston derailed the Dragons' three-game winning streak with a 30-0 Lions' victory Friday night on Redwater's home turf.

The Dragons slip to 3-1 on the season while New Boston climbs to 2-1.

Redwater's fortunes had changed this season under first-year head coach Brandon Layne. Prior to Layne's arrival from Ferris, Texas, the Dragons had suffered through three straight 1-9 season (3-27). Redwater hasn't had a .500 season while going 6-6 in 2015, and the Dragons' last winning season was an 8-4 run in 2012.

It was New Boston's night this time out.

Dalton Daniel led the Lions' in rushing with 138 yards.

Malcolm Brown paced the Dragons's ground assault with 62 yards, but he only connected on 1 of 11 passes. Passing was not a key factor in the game as both teams struggled to make completions.

New Boston's first score came in the opening quarter as Isaac Goldsmith scored one of his four touchdowns on a 4-yard run.

Goldsmith tacked on two second-quarter touchdowns to give the visitors a 22-0 halftime lead. His last TD was a 12-yard run in the final quarter.

Redwater's David McKeever and John Collier caused a pair of fumbles and also stopped a 2-point conversion try.
